Featured recently in Crain’s Business, The Real Deal, and L.A. Times, a recent and ongoing demand in studio space signals New York’s continued determination to double down on the film and production business, rivaling Los Angeles as the country’s entertainment hub. Studio facilities, sound stages, and production offices are being built at a rapid pace to accommodate the increased demand.
Headlining projects include Sunset Pier 94 Studios, public-private partnership between Vornado Realty Trust, Hudson Pacific Properties, Blackstone, the City of New York, and NYCEDC, and WildFlower Studios, a Robert De Niro backed project in Queens encompassing 765,000 square feet of soundstages.
Crain’s Business cites three main reasons New York has become such an attractive destination for production: It offers the opportunity to shoot both in studios and on location; the New York State tax credit is strong and dependable; and creative people like living in New York, making it a premier destination. Additionally, the advent of streaming services has created an insatiable demand for new content, prompting studios to expand their production capabilities.
Our team has managed the construction for some of NYC’s most prominent music, film, and event studios, overseeing everything from site preparation to the installation of advanced technical infrastructure. Read more our portfolio below:
Music and Streaming Platform Recording Studio
Located in one of Williamsburg’s premier mixed use developments, 25 Kent, our team managed construction for a global music and streaming platform’s new state-of-the-art recording studio. The 40,000 sf space hosts internationally acclaimed artists with private recording rooms, a live performance sound stage, and several lounge areas.
Sandbox Films
We worked with Oscar-nominated documentary production company, Sandbox Films, in the renovation of its new Manhattan headquarters, theater, and screening room. Constructed following an expertly crafted acoustic strategy, the theater and screening room is outfitted with the latest Dolby Atmos surround sound equipment, acoustic dampers, and reverberators- all concealed behind a series of stretched wool walnut panels.
